Fiesta ‘Sputnik’ Launched in 1957

In the late 50’s H C Sleigh Pty Ltd, the Golden Fleece Petroleum Company had a limited number of one Group Espresso Coffee Machines designed and built by Les Chrome and Harry Coleman in South Melbourne for their Petrol Station Road House Café’s. The espresso machine was called the Fiesta which had a round aluminum ball type body with steam tube, hot water outlet, group and other parts. About this time the Russians had launched their satellite Sputnik into space and the machine looked like the Russian satellite, it is not hard to understand why the machines were nicknamed Sputnik, a name that stuck. We have gone back to the birthplace of coffee this month and roasted a great Ethiopian Yirgacheffe. All Arabicas of the world are native to Ethiopia, and it is believed that coffee grew wild in Ethiopia before the existence of man. Yirgacheffes are from the Sidamo region and are often cited as personal favourites of coffee enthusiasts due to their fine aromatics and balanced acidity. Read more...
