A vibrant and exciting cup from Ethiopia’s Shakisso district.
At Dimattina we love a good washed Ethiopian coffee, so when we come across a great one like this lot from Jigesa we are over the moon! Jigesa is named for the local village that services the surrounding producers. The washing station itself is one of four operated by family-owned company Testi Coffee and has very strict quality procedures in place. One of the great things about this operator is their Project Direct initiative, which aims to improve the lives of the ‘out-growers’ (small producers) that support their washing stations. In the last few years Project Direct has helped to build schools and provide fresh drinking water to the local area. The coffee itself is particularly remarkable with crisp citrus acidity, notes of black tea, lemon myrtle and sparkling lemonade, a truly exceptional coffee.
