A super creamy coffee from the mountainous Caranavi region!
The Bolivia specialty coffee industry has come along in leaps and bounds in recent years. Coffee from the renowned Caranavi region is particularly prized for it’s cleanliness and sweetness. This coffee was produced by Julio Paye and Lupe Medina on their tiny 3 hectare farm near the small community of Copacabana. Julio and Lupe originally sold coffee as simply a ‘cash crop’ while operating their soft drink store in the nearby town, but since joining the local Sol de la Manana (Morning Sun) program – a program designed to assist small farmers in increasing the quality of their coffee – Julio has become inspired and now considers coffee his main passion. Since joining the program in 2016, Julio and Lupe have managed to increased their coffee’s cupping score significantly and are now able to command much higher prices for their former ‘cash crop’. This coffee can best be summarised by it’s extremely creamy mouthfeel and big body; dominant characteristics include peach, macadamia and ginger (reminiscent of Gingernut biscuits). This coffee makes and excellent espresso style beverage both with and without milk.
